This Western L77 Stiletto fighting knife has the very rare, highly collectible hanger-type sheath. The Marine Corps officer who carried this knife marked his name on the front of the scabbard ‘LT. E.J. BECKER‘. The back of the scabbard is also stenciled with his name.
The collector who I bought this knife from obtained the Officer’s service record through the U.S. Freedom of Information Act. The Officer was an aviator who was killed during an attack on the island of New Britain. The Officer’s service record will, of course, accompany this knife.
The knife’s blade tang is stamped ‘WESTERN BOULDER, COLO. PAT.NO.1,967,479‘. This knife measures 11 1/4″ overall. The blade itself measures 6 15/16″ to the guard. The pommel and guard on this knife are made of orange bakelite.

Rare WW2 Japanese Army COLONEL Samurai Sword -TERUHIDE -FULL POLISH/MON MENUKI

Rare WW2 Japanese Army COLONEL Samurai Sword -TERUHIDE -FULL POLISH/MON MENUKI

PRICE JUST LOWERED
1 antique World War II Japanese samurai Army Colonel Officer’s sword available. The blade is a fine sword by Ishido Teruhide. The sword is in full recent polish. This sword is mounted in shirasaya–with a gold foil habaki. This very fine Japanese Army Colonel’s katana would make an important addition to any collection.
The mounts are early–and are very rare. Mounts with this high grade blue-black/grey finish are found on perhaps 1 in 15,000 Army swords.
The kashira has a Silver Samurai family mon–which is quite nice. But what is especially uncommon is that there is a Samurai mon on each menuki.
The nakago/tang is signed with two characters, Teruhide. The kashira has a fine clasped hands sarute, and a near-mint Colonel’s (field grade) tassel. The mounts/koshirae have a wood blade/tsunagi.
The blade measures 26 1/16″/66.2 cm (as measured properly with a tape pulled tight from the blade tip to the bottom of the notch in the habaki). This sword has a very fine gold foil habaki.

1 antique World War II Japanese samurai army officer’s gendaito shin-gunto sword available. A sword in this very fine condition would make an important addition to any collection.
The tang is signed with the swordsmith’s name, ‘Nobumitsu’. This sword is unlike most others–1 in only many thousands of WW2 Japanese swords would be marked on the tang ‘Made with Tamahagne Steel’. Note the incredible hada/grain in the blade created by the use of tamahagane. When collecting Japanese WW2 swords, the unusual is desirable.
There are no arsenal stamps on the tang. All military fittings are of excellent quality. The blade measures 24 5/8″ (62.5 cm) from blade tip to notch in the blade spine. This fine sword is in perfect polish.
