The sharkskin naval kyu-gunto saya is in perfect condition. Ideas for this sword are to locate a Russo-Japanese naval kyu-gunto handle for it. Some collectors may even choose to use the beautiful sharkskin saya to complete another naval kyu-gunto they own with a poor or missing kyu-gunto saya.

RARE Japanese Samurai Sword TYPE 94 WW II IJA Army Shin-gunto -PAPERED JO SAKU

This sword is papered. The Spring 2019 NTHK Shinsa determined that this sword was made by Owari-Seki late generation Nobutaka during the Kanbun period of 1661-1673 A.D. 2nd and 3rd generation Nobutaka, father and son smiths both working during the Kanbun years, often worked together. The 3rd generation is a chujosaku smith; the 2nd generation is a josaku smith. The Shinsa worksheet will be provided with the sword. The formal papers will be mailed from Japan in 4 months. When they arrive I will forward them to the collector who buys this sword.
We feel that this sword was made by the 2nd generation josaku smith–so this is a serious sword. We suggest that the collector who purchases this sword send this sword to Japan for the NBTHK Shinsa. We feel confident they will attribute the sword to josaku Nobutaka.
The blade measures 27 3/16″ (68.6 cm) from blade tip to notch in the blade spine. This sword has a dramatic gunome hamon, and absolutely no flaws or openings of any kind.
This sword has a highest-quality mounts we have ever seen. The second hanger is removable. The tsuba is the large over-sized, early tsuba. All fittings have the high quality early reddish color fittings with all gold gilt present. The sarute has a premium gold-gilted finish as well.
The fittings all have the same matching assembly number ’14’.
