1 U.S. Vietnam War 5th Special Forces Group Presentation combat knife. This knife is identified. This SOG fighting knife would make an exceptional addition to any collection.
This knife was owned and carried by Special Forces Colonel John F. Sullivan. There is a letter from Colonel Sullivan to Bill Adams, who purchased this knife from the Colonel.
The knife blade measures 6 1/4″. This knife measures 10 7/8″ overall. This iron guard SOG knife is engraved ‘5TH SPECIAL FORCES GROUP (Abn) VIETNAM’.
Colonel Sullivan provided the original buyer of the knife with his Service resume. In addition to serving in World War 2 and Korea, Colonel Sullivan ‘…Conducted analysis of Pilot Scout Dog Program and developed U.S. Army Dog Training Program for use in Vietnam. Represented U.S. Army Combat Developments Command and participated in classified assignments.
The knife and sheath have been vetted by using Mike Silvey’s book SOG Knives and More from America’s War in Southeast Asia. The female side of the keeper strap snap has the exact stamps as the SOG knife on page 55–‘…The snap on the presentation sheath is marked with Asian characters and two stars.’
The small snap on the stone pocket is marked ‘(star) HASI (star) HATO’.
There are 4 original photos of Colonel Sullivan from Vietnam in this grouping. He also included photos of himself from the early 1980’s while he was carrying this knife.

This knife is engraved ‘SGT. MARSH A. RUMSEY III 5TH SPECIAL FORCES GROUP‘. Sergeant Rumsey was a Green Beret. The reverse side of the blade is engraved ‘PROJECT PINK ROSE A-323’. Operation Pink Rose was a defoliation project in Vietnam in 1966 and 1967.
The blade measures 6″. This knife measures 10 1/2″ overall.

Nguyen Dan knives are hard to find. This is rare example–what every Vietnam knives collector is looking for in a rare Dan knife.
This Nguyen Dan variation appears in Mike Silvey’s book Knives of the United States Military in Vietnam. See pages 110 and 111. Mike writes: “Nguyen Dan was a village craftsman who made outstanding knives by hand using the most primitive tools. Every one of his knives is unique but this large knife has a most unusual blade shape.”
This Nguyen Dan knife measures a large 13 7/16″ overall. The blade itself measures 9″. The original Dan sheath has two keeper straps.

1 U.S. Marine ID’d Vietnam War ca.1967 Gerber Mark II fighting knife. This early combat knife would make an important addition to any collection.
This Gerber is serial number ‘004580’. This Mark II serial number dates this knife to 1967. The Marine etched his name on one side of the guard. It looks to read ‘D. Hirte’. The reverse side of the guard is etched ‘USMC 2182919’. This vet’s service record is researchable since his name, branch, and serial # are on his knife.
The sheath has the 2-line Gerber stamp, and the right-hand keeper strap. The sheath houses the Gerber sharpening steel.

1 vintage U.S. Vietnam War Seven Inch Recon combat knife by Japan Sword. This is one of the rarest SOG knives–arguably the rarest, as this appears to be one of the early Prototypes. Mike Silvey points out in his book SOG Knife Collector on page 13 of another seven inch recon, “A retired CIA operative brought this knife back from Vietnam. It was recognized by Ben Baker as one of a few prototypes provided during the process of selecting the seven inch recon knife.”
This rare SOG fighting knife would make an exceptional addition to any collection.
This knife came to me with no sheath.
The knife blade measures 6 7/8”. Note the zoomed in photos of the natural irregular aging striations in the white spacer below the guard.

1 vintage Australian-made U.S. World War 2 Army Rangers brass knucks knife. This is the smaller of the two size of Ranger V44-type brass knuckle knives. This knife would make an important addition to any collection.
This original, World War II Ranger knife has the visible file marks inside the handle important to identifying an authentic WW2 knife (see photos). This knife has a 6 1/4″ blade. Overall this knife measures 10 1/8″.
The leather scabbard is original, and smells like the items in my grandpa’s WW2 foot locker.
