The tang is unsigned, with painted assembly numbers on the tang. This sword is a Murata-to sword. The slender blade, the blade’s curvature, blade length (this sword has the exact length as my last Muratato), and the bohi groove all say ‘Muratato‘. Murata Tsuneyoshi developed the “new Japanese-European combined sword system”.
All military fittings are of excellent quality. The seppa, tsuba, etc. all have the matching assembly numbers ’55’. The blade measures 25 11/16″ from blade tip to notch in the blade spine. This fine sword has a metal brown/green-lacquered scabbard.

The mounts are early–from approx. 1934 to 1939. The nakago/tang is signed with two characters, Tadaaki. The kashira has a fine gold-gilt sarute, and a near-mint Colonel’s (field grade) tassel. The blade measures 25 1/16″/63.7 cm (as measured properly with a tape pulled tight from the blade tip to the bottom of the notch in the habaki). All fittings have matching assembly numbers ’22’. This fine sword has a pierced tsuba.
This sword has a wavy hamon/temper line with an interesting distinquishing feature of an ashi on both sides of the blade 3 1/8″ back from the blade tip. Perhaps this is a trademark feature of Tadaaki’s blades.
