1 very rare Meiji 6 model (1873) chokunin level Imperial Diplomatic sword.  This rare sword would make an important addition to any collection.

This sword has the kiri (paulownia imperialis tree) emblem with a 5-7-5 bud pattern.  This bud pattern shows that this sword was carried by chokunin officials.  This is the higher rank–chokunin officials were appointed by the Emperor himself.  The lower sonin officials held lower Emperor-approved positions.  The kiri are located on the pommel, the guard, and on the blade.

This sword has a fine, woven wire grip.  The handle is gold-gilted.  The nickel-plated blade has a filegreed pattern.  The saya is perfect black-lacquered wood with gold-plated fittings.

CONDITION:

This rare model 1873 Imperial Diplomatic Sword is in rare condition.  The gold gilt is completely intact on 99% of this sword.  The fittings are in perfect condition.  The wire wrap is perfect.

The nickel-plating on the blade is 98%–just a few areas near the blade tip show any oxidation.  The blade is perfectly straight.  The black lacquered finish on the saya/scabbard is 99.9%–nearly perfect.  The saya/scabbard fittings are perfect.
