This fine Nichols fighting knife was made for the soldier, ‘DAVID R. POWELL 37468558‘, and is so marked on the guard. The curved pommel is stamped ‘NICHOLS‘ above the inlayed U.S. Buffalo nickel coin.
This knife has a 7 5/8″ blade. This knife measures 12 9/16″ overall.
The sheath is stamped on the front ‘…DAVID R. POWELL… U.S.A.‘. The top of the sheath is stamped ‘ALFRED CORNISH OMAHA.NEB‘.
CONDITION:
This WW2 Nichols fighting knife shows both honest signs of carry in World War 2, and exceptional condition. The blade has only very occasional light, surface type pitting–which show mostly only because of the associated carbon staining/patina. The handle is perfect. The buffalo nickel is perfect as well. Everything on this knife is nice and tight. The Cornish sheath is in exceptional condition. There is only some very light surface crazing on the keeper strap.
This fine named Nichols fighting knife with Cornish sheath would make an important addition to any collection.
