Description
1 antique World War II Japanese Army Samurai Officer’s gendai shin-gunto sword. This sword was made by Ishido Teruhide.
This sword is signed, ‘Ishido Teruhide Saku’. The blade was cleaned of rust, so I am unsure if there is a temper line remaining.
The blade measures 26 9/16″ (67.5 cm) from blade tip to notch in the blade spine.
All sword fittings have matching assembly numbers. The number ‘294‘ is stamped into each fitting. Next to the assembly number is a Japanese character.
CONDITION:
The handle wrap and same/rayskin are missing from the handle. The blade was cleaned of rust. I don’t see any temper line. It could be hidden–or perhaps it is no longer there at all. The buyer should plan for no temper line–and hope to be surprised. But should decide now to be satisfied at having purchased a sword by the highly collectible smith Ishido Teruhide even with no temper line. Two fittings are missing from the saya/scabbard. The throat opening is a tight fit for the sword–the wood shims are swelled from moisture. But the saya is correct for this sword.
